Full-garden packages for new villas

And what it does not cover

Scope gaps are where landscaping quotes turn into arguments. These items are genuinely outside this service, so you can price them properly rather than discover them halfway through.

  • Building the pool. We landscape around pools, we do not construct the shell, plant room or filtration.
  • Pool permits and approvals from the relevant authority, which are a separate application from any landscaping NOC and are confirmed with your community office or the authority.
  • Structural waterproofing to the villa itself, and any remedial work to existing waterproofing we uncover.
  • Pool water treatment and ongoing pool servicing.
  • Community NOC fees and deposits. These vary by community, are confirmed at application and are listed as a separate line on the itemised written quote.

Options & materials

Choose the right spec for your plot

OptionBest forWhat to know
Non-slip porcelain Pool decks and coping Look for a slip-resistance rating suited to wet areas, such as R11, and ask for the product's test data. Light tones stay cooler than dark stone, and porcelain copes well with chlorine and salt. A sensible starting point for family pools.
Natural stone Resort feel Travertine and sandstone bring natural texture. Stone decks should be sealed against pool chemicals, and light tones are kinder to bare feet.
Composite decking Lounging zones and cabanas Splinter-free and stable in humidity, though surfaces can run warm in direct sun. A practical choice for raised decks and daybed platforms where timber would need regular oiling.
Local know-how

Pool landscaping that respects the realities

Anything within splash range lives with chlorinated or salt water regularly. The planting plan should use plants that tolerate splashing, like palms and ornamental grasses, and keep delicate species beyond the spray zone, so the planting is designed to still look intentional in year three.

Privacy matters in Dubai villa communities where plots sit close together. Fast screening with ficus hedges (kept well back from the pool shell and paving, because ficus roots are aggressive), clumping bamboo in planters or trellised jasmine can give a secluded pool area without waiting years for slow growers to fill in.

Many communities set rules for where pool backwash and overflow may drain. Falls and channels should send water to the right place and keep your neighbour's wall dry, so confirm your community's drainage rules before the design is fixed.

Honest pricing

What moves the price

No two Dubai plots are the same, so we never quote blind. These are the four things that genuinely change the number on your quote.

Deck and paving area

Paving area and material, such as porcelain, natural stone or composite, is usually the largest single line.

Planting, privacy and shade

Screening hedges, specimen palms, pergolas and cabanas each add scope. Heat and splash zones also limit which plants suit the edge of the pool.

Access and working around the pool

Tight access, protecting the pool shell and equipment, and sequencing around your pool contractor add time.

Approvals and adjacent trades

New structures often need community approval. Pool construction, pool equipment and the final electrical connection are separate trades and separate lines.

Every quote is fixed, itemised and in writing, with materials and quantities listed. It states what is included and what is excluded, and authority and engineer fees appear as separate lines, so you can compare it line by line with any other quote.

Questions

Villa Landscaping: your questions answered

Can you landscape around an existing pool?
Yes. The surround can be upgraded without touching the pool shell: new paving, privacy planting, lighting and shade. Water and equipment need protection during works, and whether the pool stays usable depends on the sequence and scope, which the written quote sets out.
How long does a full villa landscaping project take?
It depends on scope, community access rules, approvals and material lead times. Hardscape comes first, then planting, then lighting and finishing. Your written quote sets the timeline, and it is worth asking for a phased programme that shows the order of work.
What does pool and villa landscaping cost in Dubai?
Cost follows scope, and the main drivers are deck area, the paving choice, planting density, any cabanas, pergolas or other structures, and lighting. Porcelain, travertine and composite decking each sit at different price points, and a surround with a raised deck, outdoor kitchen and full lighting is a very different scope from a resurfaced deck with new planting. Access, existing waterproofing and ground conditions can add work that only shows at the site visit. After the free site visit you receive a fixed, itemised written quote that lists materials and quantities and states what is included and excluded, with authority and engineer fees shown as separate lines. See our landscaping pricing guide for what moves the quote.
What paving stays coolest around a pool in summer?
Light-coloured porcelain and travertine are the coolest practical options under bare feet. Dark basalt and granite look dramatic but become unusable in August sun. Ask to see sample boards at the site visit and leave them in the sun for a few minutes, so you can feel the difference yourself before choosing.
Do I need approval to redo my pool surround?
It depends on the works and your community. In Emaar Community Management communities such as Arabian Ranches, Emaar's 2022 fact sheet lists landscaping and swimming pools among the modifications that need an NOC and names regular maintenance as work that does not, and like-for-like replacement generally does not either (our guidance, not the sheet's), though contractors still need an entry permit. Elsewhere, whether routine upkeep or like-for-like replacement needs approval depends on the community and is confirmed with its office. New or changed paving, decking and structures should be treated as needing an NOC, and where a resurfacing changes the layout, levels or materials it is safest to treat it as a modification. New structures like cabanas, outdoor kitchens or raised decks need formal community approval, and pool works can need a separate permit from the relevant authority. The owner applies through the community's portal or office, with drawings and specifications prepared by a Dubai-licensed contractor or consultant. Gardenscapes prepares the NOC drawings and specifications your application needs. Rules differ by community, so confirm with your community office before the work is priced.
Can you coordinate with my pool maintenance company?
This can be built into the programme. Work is sequenced around your pool contractor's schedule so filtration and chemical balance are protected, and access, equipment protection and handover points are agreed with them before work starts. Ask for those points to be written into the quote.
Which plants work best right beside a pool?
Choose plants that tolerate splashed chlorinated or salt water and drop little litter into the water: palms, ornamental grasses and clumping succulents are sensible choices. Keep heavy leaf-drop and fruiting trees back from the edge so skimmers do not clog, and keep thorny shrubs such as bougainvillea away from barefoot routes. Drip lines should stop short of the coping so irrigation water never stains the paving or runs into the pool.
Can you add shade and lighting to an existing pool area?
Yes. Shade usually means a pergola, cabana or tensioned shade sail placed to cover loungers through the hottest part of the afternoon, which needs an NOC in Emaar-managed communities and community approval elsewhere, so confirm with your community office. Garden lighting is normally extra-low-voltage, fed from a safety isolating transformer and run in conduit, with the mains connection to the transformer made by a licensed electrician. Pool-side zones have their own electrical safety rules, so lighting near the water is specified accordingly. Planning both at the design stage means cabling is laid before the paving goes down.
